RCB End Wankhede Drought with Thrilling Win Over Mumbai Indians

20th Match of IPL 2025, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally broke their long-standing losing streak at Wankhede Stadium by defeating Mumbai Indians (MI) in a thrilling IPL encounter. This marked RCB’s first win at the iconic venue in over a decade, adding to their momentum after also ending a 17-year jinx against CSK at Chepauk earlier in the season.

Batting first, RCB posted a formidable total of 221 for 5. Virat Kohli set the tone with a blistering 67 off 30 balls — his fastest IPL fifty since 2018 — while Rajat Patidar contributed 64 off 36 deliveries. Jitesh Sharma provided the finishing touches with a quick cameo. The RCB innings featured aggressive strokeplay, especially against the likes of Hardik Pandya and Mitchell Santner.

In response, Mumbai Indians launched a spirited chase. Tilak Varma smashed 56 off 29 balls, and Hardik Pandya added 42 from just 15, forming a rapid 89-run partnership in 34 balls that reignited hopes for MI. With just 41 needed off the final three overs, the game was wide open.

However, RCB’s bowlers held their nerves. Josh Hazlewood bowled a tight spell, while Krunal Pandya delivered a match-winning final over, defending 18 runs and finishing with career-best IPL figures of 4-0-45-4.

This win not only ended RCB’s Wankhede jinx but also boosted their confidence heading into the crucial phase of the tournament, establishing them as serious contenders for the playoffs.
