Islamabad United registered a commanding seven-wicket win over Multan Sultans in the 13th match of PSL 10, thanks to a clinical bowling display and a scintillating unbeaten knock by Andries Gous. The match, played at the Multan Cricket Stadium on Wednesday night, saw United chasing down a target of 169 with ease, finishing the game with 17 balls to spare.
Multan Sultans, after opting to bat first, began their innings cautiously. Openers Mohammad Rizwan and Yasir Khan put up a steady 51-run stand before Yasir fell to Mohammad Nawaz for 29. Despite his match-winning innings just a day earlier, Yasir couldn’t replicate the same fireworks. Rizwan, too, played a slow-paced knock of 36 from 37 balls, showing unusual restraint for the conditions.
Usman Khan was the standout batter for the Sultans, scoring a fighting 61 off 40 balls, laced with four fours and four sixes. However, the middle order failed to capitalize on the start, with Michael Bracewell and Iftikhar Ahmed making only modest contributions. A late cameo from Kamran Ghulam (13 off 6) pushed Multan’s total to 168/5.
For Islamabad United, the bowling attack was collectively efficient. Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Jason Holder, and Riley Meredith picked up one wicket each, never allowing the Sultans’ batters to dominate the innings.
In response, Islamabad United got off to a quick start, scoring 29 runs inside the first three overs. Sahibzada Farhan looked in good touch but was dismissed for 22 off 13 by Ubaid Shah. Andries Gous then took charge, stitching a crucial 81-run partnership with Colin Munro. Munro played an aggressive 45-run knock off 28 balls, smashing five boundaries and two sixes.
After Munro’s dismissal, Gous carried on the chase confidently. He was joined by Mohammad Nawaz and the duo added 55 runs together to further cement United’s hold on the game. Gous remained unbeaten on 80 from just 45 deliveries, including six fours and five towering sixes, guiding his team to victory with 17 balls to spare.
For Multan Sultans, only Ubaid Shah, Chris Jordan, and Michael Bracewell managed to take a wicket each. The rest of the bowlers struggled to contain the flow of runs or break partnerships.
This win gives Islamabad United their third victory of the season and strengthens their position in the points table, while Multan Sultans continue to look for consistency in the tournament.
