Gujarat Titans’ all-rounder Glenn Phillips has been officially ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2025 after sustaining a groin injury while fielding during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 6 in Hyderabad.
Though Phillips had not featured in GT’s playing XI this season, he was brought in as a substitute fielder after the fifth over. The injury occurred when he attempted a throw during the fourth delivery of Prasidh Krishna’s over. After completing the throw, he clutched his groin in visible pain and was assisted off the field by medical staff. He has since returned to New Zealand, and no replacement has been announced yet.
This comes as a second blow to Gujarat Titans, who also lost Kagiso Rabada earlier this week due to a personal emergency. GT had initially signed only seven overseas players, and with Gerald Coetzee still recovering from injury, their bench strength continues to be tested.
Despite the setbacks, Gujarat Titans remain top of the table with four wins out of five matches, relying on consistent performances from Jos Buttler, Rashid Khan, and Sherfane Rutherford.
The franchise is yet to announce whether a replacement will be brought in for either Phillips or Rabada.
