Former Australian fast bowler Jason Gillespie has opened up about his short coaching stint with the Pakistan national cricket team, stating that the experience left him emotionally drained and uncertain about continuing his coaching career.
In a recent interview, Gillespie said, “That episode soured my love for coaching. Honestly, I’m still unsure whether I want to coach full-time again.” He further added that even if he received an offer to coach Australia, he would currently decline it.
Gillespie briefly served as Pakistan’s red-ball coach and later took over as interim white-ball coach following Gary Kirsten’s departure. His exit came amidst internal changes, with Aaqib Javed being appointed as the interim head coach.
Notably, Gillespie had also accused Aaqib Javed of lobbying for the coaching role, which stirred controversy within Pakistan’s cricket community.
His comments have reignited discussions about the challenges faced by foreign coaches in international cricket environments, particularly in teams undergoing frequent administrative and structural changes.
