In Match 21 of IPL 2025, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by a narrow margin of 4 runs in a high-scoring contest at Eden Gardens.
Batting first, LSG posted an imposing total of 238 for 3—one of their highest in IPL history. Mitchell Marsh laid the foundation with a blistering 81, while Nicholas Pooran dominated the latter stages with an unbeaten 87 off just 36 balls. The pair’s attacking intent ensured that LSG kept up pressure on KKR throughout the innings.
KKR started their chase aggressively, reaching 90 in the powerplay. Ajinkya Rahane contributed 61 runs, and Venkatesh Iyer added 45 to keep the scoreboard moving. Later, Rinku Singh’s late cameo of 38 off 15 deliveries nearly turned the game in KKR’s favor.
However, LSG’s bowlers maintained composure in the death overs. Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Akash Deep, and Shardul Thakur took key wickets at crucial moments. Smart variations and the use of spin in the final overs prevented KKR from reaching the target.
Despite a strong effort by KKR, they ended their innings at 234 for 7—falling just four runs short. LSG’s all-round performance earned them a thrilling win and valuable points in the tournament.
