In a thrilling encounter in Lahore, Scotland Women pulled off a remarkable upset by defeating West Indies Women by 11 runs in the second match of the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier 2025.
Batting first, Scotland set a competitive target of 244 runs, led by a determined 55 from Sarah Bryce and a vital 45 from Megan McColl. In response, West Indies were bowled out for 233 in 46.2 overs, despite a magnificent all-round display from Hayley Matthews, who scored an unbeaten 114 off 113 balls and claimed 4 wickets for 56 runs.
Zaida James added 45 runs to West Indies’ total, but the rest of the batting lineup failed to withstand the pressure in the closing overs.
While Matthews earned the Player of the Match award for her outstanding individual performance, it was Scotland who walked away with the crucial win, marking a strong and surprising start to their WWC Qualifier campaign.
